Telling His Story
Second World War veteran Alexander MacInnis, originally of Port Hawkesbury, joined the Canadian Army for his 20th birthday on Sept. 7th 1939, and found himself heading off to war on Mother's Day in 1940. MacInnis fought in some of the fiercest battles of the war and was wounded in action twice. He returned home on Valentine's Day in 1945 to his wife Rita Marie MacInnis, who passed away in 1991. MacInnis is always busy near Remembrance Day telling ins story to students at schools throughout Cape Breton. MacInnis is pictured Tuesday in his apartment in Sydney where he now lives alone.
