In Flanders Fields

I n Flanders Fields the poppies blow. Between the crosses, row on row.
That mark our place; and  in the sky.The Larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below 

W e are the Dead. Short days ago. We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. 

Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die. We shall not sleep, tho poppies grow In Flanders field

The Cape Breton Highlanders Monument

 

Two memorials to the common sacrifice mark the War Cemeteries of the Commonwealth:

"The Cross of Sacrifice"
 A tall stone set upon an octagonal base and bearing upon its shaft a Crusader's
 sword of bronze.

" The Stone of Remembrance"
A great altar-like stone, having carved upon it the resounding words from the Book of Ecclesiastics:
"Their Name Liveth For Evermore"
